How are teams formed? [Back to Top]

Teams will be formed honoring player requests for a specific coach or to play with a friend, in as much as possible. However, this only applies up to the maximum team size and on a first come, first serve basis. Further, West United reserves the right to adjust teams for size and/or competitive balance. After player requests are considered, we try to group players together by random order.

Priority will be given to all requests on a first-come first-serve. West United makes every effort to honor your play with and coaching requests within the guidelines and limitations we have. When other options are not available, players will be placed on teams that need players.

Can my daughter play on a girls only team? [Back to Top]

West United participates only in coed teams. Girls have the option of playing on either an all girls team or on a coed team.

How big are your teams? [Back to Top]

West United has determined the team size limit using recommendations from UYSA for maximum player opportunity and development. U-5, U-6, and U-7 play 4 v. 4 with a maximum team size of 8 players. U-8 and U-9 play 6 v. 6 with a maximum team size of 10 players. U-10 and U-11 play 8 v. 8 with a maximum team size of 12 and JH and HS play 11 v. 11 with a maximum team size of 18.

Where will my child’s games be played? [Back to Top]

West United is generally located in the Hunter and Cyprus High School geographic areas. Our game fields are located at Hunter Park.

When are games played? [Back to Top]

Games are played on Saturdays. They are scheduled throughout the day beginning in the morning and ending in the afternoon. Game schedules will be available online about one to two weeks prior to the start of each season.

Where and when will my child practice? [Back to Top]

Practice place and time is determined by each coach. Prior to the start of each season, our coaches will contact everyone to inform you of the practice field and time. They will let their team know the day and time of their practice. Most teams practice once per week during the season.

When will I know who my child’s coach is and when practice will start? [Back to Top]

West United holds a coaches meeting approximately 2-3 weeks before the start of each season. Coaches receive uniforms and finalize team signups. They are encouraged to start practices and contact their players as soon after this meeting as possible. Registration is for a full year (both fall and spring seasons) and will remain on the same team for both seasons.

Adults can register as a coach here.

Who coaches the teams? [Back to Top]

West United is a volunteer organization. We rely on parent volunteers to coach their children. We can only create teams if we have parents willing to coach those teams. West United makes every effort to help train and educate our volunteer coaches in the best method for coaching youth soccer. If you would like to volunteer as a coach please register here or by calling our information hotline (801) 948-0770 or contact the league president at president@westunitedsoccer.org for more information.

Where do I get a uniform for my child? [Back to Top]

Uniforms are included in the price of registration. The uniform consists of 1 jersey, one pair of shorts, and one pair socks. Shin guards are required at all practices and games. Cleats are preferred, but are not mandatory. Both are NOT INCLUDED in the registration price. They may be purchased at any sports store. If you purchase cleats, be sure to purchase Soccer cleats and not Baseball or Football cleats because these types are dangerous and include a single cleat on the front toe and the player will not be allowed to play.

What is your refund policy? [Back to Top]

Requests made for a refund will be honored only prior to the first game of the fall season. All requests for refunds must be made in writing, specifying the following:

  • The parent/guardian that registered the child
  • The name(s) and age(s) of the child(ren) enrolled
  • The reason for seeking the refund

A $20 non-refundable administration fee may applied to all refunds.
